10 Smart Home Office Gadgets

As a kid I was always inspired by those sleek movie offices where everything responds to voice commands, the lighting is good and it feels like the person has their stuff together. These days it doesn’t have to just live on the screen, it's Tuesday afternoon at your office.

You can set up routines and automations around your smart devices, too.

These aren't just gadgets, they're your new productivity sidekicks that earn their keep. And the best part? Everything I'm sharing is available on Amazon and doesn't require an engineering degree to set up.

Why Your Office Deserves an IQ Boost

Before we dive into the fun stuff, let's talk about why this matters beyond just having cool toys.

The Decision Fatigue Villain is real, and it's stealing your brainpower. Every time you wonder "Should I turn on the light? Is it too hot in here? Where's my phone charger?" your brain uses up decision-making juice. Smart automation handles the small stuff so you can focus on your specialty.

Smart automation can give you back 1-2 hours every single week. That's 8 extra hours a month.

The Hall of Fame Gadgets (AKA Your New Best Friends)

Alright, let's get to the good stuff. I've tested a lot of smart gadgets and these 10 are the ones that always come to my mind first because they are used daily.

I am an amazon influencer and this post contains links to amazon products that I like and recommend.

1. Smart Plugs

Why you'll love them: These little overachievers turn any "dumb" device into a scheduling genius. Your coffee maker, fan, heater, vanity—suddenly they all have superpowers.

There are a lot of options for smart plugs and which one you should go with depends on the device you’re hooking it up to and how you’ll integrate the device into an automation.

For instance, a fan doesn’t need a philips hue smart light necessarily but it is easier for your vanity to have one. We just added a vanity to the dressing room at the studio and plugged it into the smart switch so that it automatically turns on and off.

Here are some options for smart plugs:

  • Philips Hue Smart Plug

  • Amazon Smart Plug

  • Kasa Smart Plug Mini

The real magic happens when you create routines. I have a routine set up so that when I say “Turn on Photo Lights,” the studio shooting lights turn on. I don’t have to manually go around and turn on all of the big studio lights to shoot and instead can activate that with my voice.

2. Smart Desk Lights

Your eyes will actually thank you for proper lighting that adjusts throughout the day.

I put a Desk Lightstrip on the back of the computer for my assistants for a couple of reasons. One, it’s pretty and feels nice to be able to change the color. But it also reduces eye strain and they can easily control the brightness based on what they need that day.

3. Smart Thermostat

Your office stays "just right" without you constantly babysitting the temperature and you can schedule your away times to conserve energy.

I have actually purchased one of these but haven’t installed it just yet. Really looking forward to seeing how it helps with energy conservation.

4. Voice Assistants

Hands-free everything while you stay in your productivity zone. No more breaking focus to mess with lights, music, or timers.

The Amazon Echo Show is a voice assistant with a screen for movies, viewing music, and more. You can set timers, control your smart devices, check your calendar, even join video calls—all without touching anything.

You can set up your voice assistant to start pomodoros, remind you about certain meetings and more.

5. Smart Lighting: The Mood Magician

Why you'll love them: Transform your space from "corporate grind" to "creative sanctuary" with literally just a tap on your phone. The psychological impact of good lighting is real, and now you can customize it perfectly.

The Philips Hue Starter Kit is the Picasso of smart lighting. You can set any color, any brightness, create scenes for different activities, and even sync them with your calendar or music.

I have different lighting setups for client calls (bright and professional), creative work (typically blue or purple but you could go with a warm color here, too), and end-of-day wind-down (soft and blue). It's amazing how much your mood and energy shift with the lighting.

🎯 Pro Tip: Use the concentrate lighting preset during client calls. It looks like natural light!

6. Sit-Stand Smart Desks: The Energy Multiplier

Why you'll love them: Your desk automatically reminds you to switch positions before your back stages a revolt. No more setting phone alarms that you ignore—this thing literally moves.

The FlexiSpot E7 is like having a personal trainer you actually listen to. It has memory presets for different heights and can be programmed to remind you to alternate between sitting and standing.

Standing during phone calls or challenging tasks keeps you active throughout the day. There's something about being on your feet that makes you feel more assertive and energetic.

7. Smart Air Purifiers: The Invisible Productivity Booster

Why you'll love them: Clean air equals clearer thinking. This has actually made a huge difference in our home and at the studio. There's actual science behind how air quality affects cognitive performance.

The Air Doctor is probably my favorite is the silent guardian of your air quality. I also have a couple of dysons because they offer heat control but I think the air quality and odor elimination on the air doctor is superior currently.

🎯 Pro Tip: Connect it to your voice assistant so you can turn it on automatically when you walk in, at specific times of the day or when you tell it to.

8. Wireless Charging Stations: The Cord Chaos Killer

Why you'll love them: Drop, charge, go. No more hunting for the "right" cable or untangling cord spaghetti. Your devices just... work.

The Anker 3-in-1 Cube with MagSafe has piqued my interest recently but it’s a bit pricey.

What we currently do is this:

We have what I call “the drawer thing” and we have a high quality extension cord on top with different things plugged in. It acts as a charging station and I also have smart gadgets plugged into it for more automations.

9. Smart Notebooks: The Analog-Digital Bridge

Why you'll love them: Keep the joy and creativity of handwriting while getting the power of instant digital backup. Best of both worlds without compromise.

There are a lot of options here and I always think its best to invest in something that you know you’ll use long-term and if you can make it work for multiple uses, that’s even better.

Because of this, I prefer to use my ipad with an ipad pencil. I sometimes use it to jot down notes, doodle, work through anything that needs that handwriting-to-brain connection, occasional calendaring, etc.

10. Smart Blinds: The Natural Light Conductor

Why you'll love them: Perfect lighting for every meeting without getting up or looking like you're adjusting witness protection equipment mid-call.

We don’t have these yet but they are definitely on my radar for one day in the future.

Natural light is everything for video calls and general mood, but manually adjusting blinds can be tedious so it could be helpful depending on your setup.

Pro Tip: Program them to open gradually in the morning, mimicking a natural sunrise.

The Strategic Gadget Game Plan

Okay, before you go crazy and try to smart-ify everything at once, here’s how you could approach this strategically and not overspend on things you don’t reallly need:

What actually slows you down during your workday? Is it constantly adjusting the temperature? Forgetting to charge devices? Bad lighting on calls? Start with the gadgets that solve your biggest pain points.

Pick 2-3 game-changers first. I recommend beginning with smart plugs (they're cheap and help immediately) and a voice assistant (it becomes the control center for everything else). And of course I think smart lighting is the best smart gadget to exist. Build what you need and what will solve the biggest problems for you right now.

Don’t forget to choose gadgets that play nice together. If you go with Amazon Echo, lean toward gadgets that work well with Alexa. If you're Team Google, prioritize Google-friendly options. Integration is where the real magic happens.

ROI over cool factor. Yes, having a voice-controlled office is fun, but prioritize the gadgets that actually save you time or make you more professional. Getting both utility and cool factor is the sweet spot, but utility wins if you have to choose.

Your Mission Control

Smart gadgets should always solve problems for you and give you a real return on your investment whether that’s time you have saved, earned income, etc.

They are also fun! So once you have selected what will be most beneficial then you can brainstorm some fun options to incorporate as well.

Maybe you have theme music that plays every time you walk into the office.
