Should you post vertical, horizontal, or square images on Instagram?

Have you seen Instagram's new update that allows the sharing of vertical and horizontal images?! I'm sure you have! It's a great feature that can really help us business owners grab the attention of our audience. After experimenting for a few months, I have discovered a few things:

1) Vertical and square images do perform better on instagram

Did you know that your image gets less space in the feed when it's horizontal? Instagram's layout allows vertical images to get the most space in a feed! If someone is scrolling through their feed quickly, it's important to grab their attention! Naturally, a larger image does just that.

2) My vertical images receive 10% more likes than my square images

On average, my vertical images receive 210.4 likes. My square images receive 190. This means that, on average, my vertical images receive 10% more likes than my square images. There are so many factors that play into each image but it's something to think about!

 3) Square images are still considered to be native to the platform

If you have ever read anything from a social media expert, they explain that being native is key to success! So even though vertical images perform better, I don't post them as often as square images.

4) Have fun!

Just because you're using social media for your business doesn't mean that it should be boring! Let this be just one more way for you to express yourself and connect with your audience! Don't put so much pressure on yourself. Let go and be YOU.

Likes, comments, and the number of followers just don't matter! Yes, it's all great for business and growth but your social media "engagement" will never fulfill you. If you follow Jesus, we are instructed to seek His Kingdom first (Matthew 6). So it's for His name and glory - not our own!
