Things to consider when rebranding
If ever there was a time to decorate my office in wallpaper, it's today.
And if I were decorating with wallpaper, I would be using one of the 3 patterns that Kathryn created for my new look.
Because they are full of flowers, herbs, and every happy thing that lives in a garden. I'm excited to have my designer and friend, Creme Brands, on the blog today sharing the 5 things you must know about rebranding. So whether you're considering it, or already in the process, grab a pen and a piece of paper and let's take notes.
This gal is brilliant. She would never tell you that she is the crème de la crème, but let me tell you that it's true. I searched high and low for someone to handle every detail of my brand (after building a brand that I actually really loved), and she has blown me away!
Hi there! I’m Kathryn and I had the joy of working with your friend, Jordan, on her brand and site design. Today, I’m thrilled to get to share some tips with you on the design process. If you’re thinking about going through the design process, here are five things you should know:
1) Rebrand based on your business goals
Take the time to sort through whether you have actual business goals tied to a rebrand, or whether it’s just because you want to change up the the decor or keep up with someone else. Purpose trumps pretty every time. And, while rebranding will likely give you some stylin’ new duds, the message it helps you communicate and the specific people it will help you reach is even more powerful. When you chose to dive into rebranding because it’s in line with your business goals, rebranding becomes a vehicle to help you get to where you want to go!
Think far out with your rebranding project. Rebranding is not a short term project, but will have long-lived impact on your business (I encourage people to think about rebranding in light of where they want their business to be 5-10 years from now!) Since rebranding is long-term decision, you don’t have to feel pressure that you must embark on it next month. In fact, you may find that taking 6-12 months to save up for the project and get in the queue of your designer gives you more time to think about your goals, and so you come to the project even more prepared!
2. Rebrand in a way that is true to you
When you are going through the rebranding process, try as much as possible to do so in a vacuum. Avoid hopping on Pinterest to piece together your dream graphic design look. While there’s tons of gorgeous inspiration out there, it’s not time to be cruising the internet for your new look. Instead, it’s time to be searching your heart for why you’re in business, what you want to say, and who you really want to say it to. When you go through the rebranding process in a way that is true to you, you can start with your “why” instead of someone else’s “what.”
3. Focus on the feeling
Focus on how you want your brand to feel, not on specific spacing, font, or Pantone color. You may have seen something on the internet and gotten your heart set on someone else’s brand or a specific design detail. But, resist the urge to copy and keep an open mind for your designer to create you something original and out of the box. A custom look sets your business apart! Sometimes it’s hard to stay open to new things, but I promise you it’s worth it :)
4. Pace yourself and keep an open mind
The rebranding process involves a myriad of details and decisions, so pace yourself as much as you can. Get a jump start on culling through your images and writing copy for your website early on. If you think you may want to get new headshots or do a styled shoot for your launch, go ahead and set that up. Getting these pieces in motion sooner rather than later will help you be able to kick back and enjoy the launch week.
5. Be confident about your differences
Rebranding is a time that many of my clients tell me reignites their passion. You’ll be challenged to feel more comfortable in your own skin. There’s only one business out there that has your unique perspective, style, and experiences. Don’t be afraid to own the stuff that makes you weird or the ways that your business goes against the industry norms. These are very things that make your brand magic. The very things that make it you.
I hope these tips help your branding experience more inspiring & energizing. I’d love to meet you. Please come say “hi” over on Instagram: @cremebrands!
