Does anyone else love hosting people?! I love catching up with my family and friends over yummy dinners. Sometimes we sit in the dining room and sometimes we migrate to the living room. We have an open floor plan so everything is right there! But friends, I have this problem sometimes. Sometimes I get so stressed trying to get everything done: a clean house, a yummy meal, grocery shopping, and just not being sweaty when people arrive.
I can’t be the only one who has felt stressed trying to host a party so Charity Bennitt and I decided to put our minds together! She even put together a checklist for your that covers the week of the party!
Here’s the key to stress-free hosting: make it about the people you get to host! We know that you can apply that in a lot of ways so we have put together a list of 6 ways to keep the stress out of the hosting picture!
(1) REMEMBER THAT EVERYTHING DOES NOT HAVE TO BE PERFECT
The most important thing about hosting is for you to remember that it doesn’t have to be perfect. Don’t focus on how to impress others or how to look like you have it all together. Focus on enjoying the people that you’re hosting and how you can make them feel special! We know you want to make them feel special because you decided to host them!
(2) CLEAN YOUR HOUSE THE WEEK OF THE EVENT
My guess is that you already clean your home each week. We suggest doing this clean 3 days before the party (the same day you go grocery shopping). On the day of the party you can just walk through the house and spot clean.
(3) PICK A MEAL YOU CAN PREPARE IN ADVANCE
What’s so wonderful about serving a cheese tray or dainty appetizers? You can prepare them in advance and they are easy. Stay away from trying anything new for the main course so that you don’t run into any hiccups. Pick a meal that is easy for you to prepare!
(4) START WITH A CLEAN SLATE THE MORNING OF
Run and empty the dishwasher the night before. Put the pillows back on the couch and fold all the blankets. Set out any homemade floral arrangements and pull out the good soap for the guest bathroom!
(5) ADD FUN DETAILS THAT INSPIRE YOU
We don’t suggest doing these things to try to impress people! Instead, think about how you can have fun while creating and decorating. How can you make your guests feel welcomed and loved?
(6) DON’T TAKE ON ANY BIG HOME PROJECTS
Most people have a long list of things they want to do: hang a gallery wall, buy new pillows or a new throw, paint, or refinish furniture. Don’t worry about trying to accomplish any of these things the week of your party! We understand the temptation but don’t wear yourself out trying to make everything perfect!
We hope this helps you as you plan your next party. Have fun, be creative, and don’t be afraid to throw an imperfect party! Those are the best! Come back tomorrow because we have a super fun announcement for you (we may or may not be hosting an event)!
