Photo Checklist Before Launching Your Product on Amazon

Things move quick on Amazon and we both know that shoppers make decisions fast.

They are scrolling through dozens of listings, and in a matter of seconds they have already decided whether yours is worth a closer look. Before they read your title, before they check your reviews, before they look at your price, they see your photos.

That first image is doing a lot of work.

If your visuals are not ready, your listing is not ready. Here is what needs to be in place before you hit publish.

Main Product on White Background

This is your hero image and Amazon requires it. Clean white background, product centered, no props, no text, no distractions.

This is the image that shows up in search results. It is the first thing a shopper sees and it sets the tone for everything else. A crisp, well-lit hero image identifies your product well and sets up the rest of the listing.

Lifestyle Shots in Context

Your hero image shows what the product is. Your lifestyle images show what it is like to own it.

A shopper needs to be able to picture your product in their life and lifestyle photography does that job. Show it being used. Show it in a real environment. Show the kind of person who would actually love it.

This is where the emotional connection happens and emotional connection is made for people who are actually looking for your product.

Detail and Closeup Shots

Amazon shoppers cannot pick up your product and turn it over in their hands. Haha. You know that. It’s part of the problem because if only they could see how great your product is, they would checkout right?

Thats why we want your detail shots have to do that for them.

We need to get close. Show the texture, the finish, the quality of the materials, the craftsmanship. If there is something about your product that makes it worth the price, your detail shots are where you prove it.

These images also build trust. When a shopper can see exactly what they are getting there is less hesitation and fewer returns.

Size and Scale Shots

One of the most common reasons for returns on Amazon is that the product was a different size than the customer expected. A size or scale shot removes that confusion entirely.

Show your product next to something familiar. A hand, a common object, a piece of furniture. Give the shopper a real sense of how big or small it actually is before they buy.

It is a simple shot that saves a lot of problems down the line.

A Few Things to Check Before You Launch

Beyond the individual shot types, run through this before your listing goes live:

Upload your photos at the highest resolution that Amazon will allow your account. Amazon allows zoom and shoppers use it a lot.

Make sure your images tell a story in order. Think of your listing like a visual presentation. Each image should build on the last and move the shopper closer to a decision.

Your Photos Are Your Salesperson

On Amazon you do not get to talk to your customer. You do not get to answer their questions in real time or explain why your product is worth it.

Your photos do all of that for you.

Invest in them like they matter. Because on Amazon, they absolutely do.
