JB Homework Sessions: It's in the details
Yay! Today is the day that homework sessions are due! You can still join in on the fun at any point in time, so feel free to use this assignment for any personal work! If you want to see the work of others and share your own work, just use the following hashtag: #jbhomeworksessions! These sessions are designed to help you discover your photographic voice and to challenge you as an artist so you continue to grow!
Photograph an entire session (for personal work) without ever showing the subject’s face.
The Purpose of the Challenge
I wanted to challenge us all to think differently about our posing.
The Challenges I Faced during the challenge
This was a lot harder than I expected! I knew that I wanted to break the rules a little and show parts of the face, but it's hard to connect with someone if you can't see their full face. I struggled to think of a way to tell the story that didn't involve expression from the face, so I tried to tell a story through scenery and the details of the props (by how they related to Jianna)!
What I Learned
I now know that I can communicate a lot in a photograph through body language! This assignment made me consider the posing that I do in all of my sessions. I want to make sure that people can connect to the people in the photograph, so I will be incorporating a lot more poses that involve looking at the camera!
I also learned that I have some "go-to" poses! And that's not a bad thing, but this forced me to branch out and try new things.
p.s. I am falling in love with yellow! I love the way Jianna's jacket photographed!
Below are the photos from the challenge! I am going to give the next assignment at the first of the month! Enjoy your weekend and get out there and shoot!!
