My heart swells thinking about the friends and family who came to celebrate our Daniel! They sat in our living room while Daniel opened presents, fed him cheerio puppy chow, and let him practice all his tricks. It brought me so much joy to have these loved ones in our home!
I gave myself total freedom to do whatever I wanted for Daniel's party. I decided not to worry about whether it felt too simple or too extravagant. I just wanted it to be something that Daniel could enjoy! I was so excited to put together lots of little details and photograph them. I normally try to have the photos done before everyone arrives but that didn't happen! So this time Isaac greeted people while I wrapped up shooting details!
I love that there is nothing fancy about being a mom. I love that life is just happening and there is nothing orderly about it. I didn't know that my soul was longing for this messy motherhood life until I was living it. Dirt-covered floors are evidence of our end-of-the-day gardening. Toy-covered floors are evidence of Daniel doing his work. A tired momma is evidence of day full of what matters.
My heart is so full! Our little one is ONE! I'm so thankful that Isaac is on board with all of my crazy ideas - even a last-minute DIY outdoor curtain project!!
I am still in love with popcorn bags! They may look familiar because these are leftover from Jaelyn and David's wedding! Our little family loves fruit so we made skewers that even the kids could enjoy. One of my favorite details was probably the paper airplane table. I imagined all of us flying our planes across the yard (we are all competitive) but I think we visited too much. Haha! The kids had a blast with their own race though!
Our handsome little guy...
Oh! I really enjoyed this part! Isaac and I have a little garden this year (and we are actually weeding this time). I created a mix of all the seeds we are using for a little "seed surprise." Everyone will get to watch their plants turn into something beautiful during the next few months!
I love this little camera! It has been with us since Daniel was born so it seemed fitting to incorporate it for his party! We asked everyone to take a photo with Daniel and write a letter to him in his baby book!
I rearranged our dining room so that we could have a little reading nook for the kids. It made me want to leave my table on the deck for the rest of the summer!
There was a little "dig" theme to Daniel's party! It was a word that the Lord gave to me at the beginning of the month and I had so much fun letting it inspire so many details! We used a garden spade to serve the popcorn!
My mom made Cheerio puppy chow for Daniel! We decided to keep his "cake" simple and pick up a cupcake from one of our favorite bakeries. I wanted to keep the snacks simple and light since it was in the middle of the afternoon so Daniel was the only one eating cake that day!
Friends, this is what delight looks like on a one-year-old boy! I think most of the cupcake ended up on him or on the ground, but he loved every little bite that made it to his mouth!!
Sweet, sweet boy!! Isaac's mom made the lemon blueberry biscuits!
A couple of Daniel's friends were happy to help him finish the cupcake! It's so sweet how much Daniel looks up to these two!
We had a lot of extra plants from our garden this year so we made a strawberry tower for the corner of the deck! And then we sent everyone home with a plant!
Thank you for this sweet photo of the three of us, Brandy! I can't believe we have a ONE YEAR OLD BOY!!
