Finding the words to describe Charity's work just might be impossible without seeing it for yourself. Each detail is thoughtfully put together and each flower is complimented by the flower that sits next to it. And the color. Oh, what she does with color is something else entirely. Charity is full of life. Her creativity is inspiring and her joy is contagious. I'm so excited to have her on the blog today sharing a little bit about her business!
CONNECT WITH CHARITY
What is the first thing you did this morning?!
Every morning when I first wake up, I spend a few minutes (depending on the day; sometimes more, sometimes less) cuddling with my Pup, Parker (yes, he sleeps in our bed — call me crazy!) But these few minutes of cuddling in the morning are so refreshing and often lead to giggles, tickles and joy! I absolutely love it! After cuddling, then I focus and start my morning routine.
What is your favorite breakfast and/or drink?
Morning isn’t a good morning unless I have a mug full of my healthy (instant) mocha drink with a drop of organic peppermint EO and a teaspoon of coconut oil. It is so delicious; it warms my taste buds and my heart, and sets my mind on productivity.
What does your typical work day look like?
My business is seasonal, so a typical day during wedding season would consist of processing flowers (de-leafing stems, cutting stems), designing corsages/boutonnieres, arranging bouquets, centerpieces, and other floral decor. Also, responding to many emails.
A typical day during non-wedding season would consist of consultations, brainstorming/planning meetings, wedding flower proposals, updating our website, paperwork, and many emails. :)
What is one challenge you have faced today?
We moved into our new home just a couple weeks ago and we absolutely LOVE it! It’s a dream. But, I am finding it difficult to focus on one task at a time! There are so many things we want to do and I am fighting the urge to do it all now. Obviously I can’t, it will take time to make this house our home, so I’m mentally having to tell myself regularly, “Enjoy today, take it one step at a time, it will happen, enjoy the process.”
Favorite office items?
Simplified Planner by Emily Ley - this tool helps me organize and run my business, life, events, and even meal planning! I would be a mess without it!
Le Pens - I love color and I love writing. These are the perfect pretty pens to inspire and bring joy to the “mundane” of office work.
B is for Bonnie Designs - I am an advocate for encouragement, so when I found Bonnie’s beautiful prints, I snatched three of them for my office wall. Words of encouragement can never be overdone: Dream Bigger Darling, Be You, Bravely, Good Things Take Time.
What is your favorite type of floral design/arrangement?
I enjoy designing all kinds of styled arrangements, but as of recently I am really loving the all natural, organic, free flowing arrangements…like this.
What is one accomplishment from today!?
I hung the curtains in all the bedrooms upstairs!! Woohoo! This has been a week’s worth of headache, frustration, and testing patience. ;)
What are you really looking forward to in April?
Wedding season officially kicks off and I am so excited about the weddings we're part of! They are all so beautiful, unique, luscious, and gorgeous! Can’t wait for it to begin!
What is one thing you have learned today?
Being a business owner (who works from home, I might add!) requires a lot of self-discipline, focus, determination, and drive. I am a motivated person and sometimes can get too achievement oriented. Having a high bar for myself, I am finding I need to have the grace to pull back; to literally write in "margin time" for an hour a day and rest. Yes, rest. Much of my time is thinking, doing, planning, working, pouring out. Today I’m learning to pour in. I have to replenish the supply with margin, rest, reading, writing and singing. Singing, playing, and making music is my practical avenue of rest. I have found that it pours living water deep within my soul and brings an overwhelming peace over my heart.
What is your favorite project for the day?
I have a few inspirational shoots coming up in the next couple weeks, so today I am planning the florals for these special styled shoots! I always love when I can plan creatively and think “outside the box”. These opportunities are what keep my creativity alive.
What is your favorite book?
As of late, my favorite book has been The Power of Less by Leo Babauta. The author describes how finding contentment/joy in a few beautiful things is better than more things or a house full of things. It not only applies to “stuff” but it applies to our time; focusing on what matters most, investing into our core values and not being stretched so thin that we’re good for nothing! I totally love this book and I could see myself reading it once a year! It is a powerful and necessary reminder for me as it goes against the grain of our consumerism culture.
