And then I remembered that I'm not alone.
I woke up this morning and just really wanted to do a Bible Study with you. I want to sit down with you over coffee and dig into the Word. I want to make sure that you know that it's okay if you don't love reading your Bible. Getting in the Word is something that should bring freedom to our lives - not chains. At the same time, we should be disciplined to be in the Word! It's how we learn truth. It's how we first learn to hear God's voice. So let's be disciplined to give ourselves the food that we need and live in freedom while we eat it! There's no pressure here, friends. We don't have to know the order of the books of the Bible and we don't have to have it all memorized. Let's just dive in and start hearing some truth!
Kathryn sent over logos yesterday afternoon and I'm speechless. I'm trying to decide which way to go and have been pouring over the heart of my brand, the direction, and intention, and now the visual elements that will communicate all of it. I went through moments of feeling so stumped yesterday. Now I have to choose which logo direction we take. And all of the other visual elements will follow!
So yesterday afternoon, evening, night, and this morning I have been asking God for wisdom. And He has given it. The Lord is faithful to show us which way to go. Even in business. Even in marriage. Even when we can't get pregnant. When nothing is falling apart. And even when everything is falling apart.
The passage that Jesus laid on my heart this morning is John 16:4-15. I'm listening to Amanda Cook's Brave New World and reading this...
"I did not say these things to you from the beginning, because I was with you. But now I am going to him who sent me, and none of you asks me, 'Where are you going?' But because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled your heart. Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you. And when he comes, he will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment: concerning sin, because they do not believe in me; concerning righteousness, because I go to the Father, and you will see me no longer, concerning judgement, because the ruler of this world is judged.
"I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. He will glorify me, for he will take what is mine and declare it to you. All that the Father has is mine; therefore I said that he will take what is mine and declare it to you." -John 16: 4-15
These words leave my heart stirred. Jesus did not abandon us to do life on our own and try to figure everything out. Instead, he sent the Holy Spirit, whom He refers to in this passage as the Helper and then the Spirit of truth. I have heard from many women that they feel like asking what Jesus wants them to do with their lives is selfish and lazy. If you are in a place where you're believing the same thing, then I want to tell you that you have been lied to.
It's hard to seek Jesus because we don't like enduring or waiting. It's a challenge to surrender and say, "this is yours, Lord." And that surrender is not weak. The accuser would have you believe that you're lazy, not patient. So here's what I want to say to you today - endure. Don't give up. Don't throw in the towel. Wait on the Lord because He will show up.
God is moving in a mighty way in the hearts of His people. He has given us the Holy Spirit so that we can hear what God has to say to us. If we are lacking wisdom, we should ask God for wisdom. In James 1:5, there's great news! God doesn't distribute wisdom based on favorites because He doesn't have favorites. He just loves us.
So ask Jesus for help and He will give it (Psalm 9:9-10, Matthew 7:7-8). Remember today that God has good plans and He gives good gifts (Jeremiah 29:11, Matthew 7:11, James 1:17, and one of my favorites - Psalm 84:11) and these gifts aren't like the worlds gifts for He doesn't give the way the world gives (John 14:27). He is able when we are not. And now that we're confident about the Holy Spirit who shows us the way, let's throw off everything that keeps us afraid of the love of God. Let's let his love pierce our hearts.
