7 Reasons Every Business Should Have a Blog
If you have been with me from the beginning of my business, you know that I took a long blogging break. I mean, I am not really even sure you can call it a break! I just quit blogging because I felt like it was taking up valuable time and I assumed it wasn't worth it. I had been blogging five days a week for a year and a half and I just quit. If I had known about the kind of traffic I was getting daily from my blog to my website I would never have quit. If I had known the kind of (FREE) marketing that it would bring for my business, I never would have quit! In January of this year, I started blogging again. I have seen so many benefits for my business, but I have also seen so many benefits for me! Blogging forces me to produce my best work every time. Blogging has helped me book weddings. Blogging encouraged me to launch a shop that is actually profitable each month!!
Blogging is my favorite way to market my business! It's becoming easier and easier to come up with topics and I am becoming more passionate about it! I find myself thinking of all the different blogs I could start. And then I remember that, for now, I'm going to focus on this one. So if you're on the fence about blogging, DO IT!!
One of the best things about a blog is that your work is always being put in front of your audience! You know those businesses that everyone is always using and everyone is always talking about? Blogging gives you the opportunity to be one of those businesses. And we all know what word of mouth can do for a business!
Higher ranking on the web
There are so many ways to improve your search engine rankings! If you want something in depth, I recommend reading Tofurious' SEO for Photographers. Even if you aren't a photographer, you will learn so much in his PDF! Blogging basically gives you the opportunity to keyword and grow your SEO EVERYDAY! Again, marketing!!
Others are more likely to collaborate with you
I don't have a statistic for this, but in my experience, other vendors get excited to work with me when they realize I have a blog! I think it's exciting to realize that someone else is going to be doing some marketing for you!
Being an expert in a certain area helps to build rapport in your industry! But what you might not realize is that it builds rapport with your potential customers even if the industry and the potential customers are two different groups.
Eventually, you want to merge the two groups and make sure that they are the same. Your marketing efforts need to reach the people who are spending the money in your business!
You choose your audience
One of my favorite things about blogging is that I get to choose my target audience! I choose to write to other photographers and entrepreneurs because it's something I am passionate about and I want to share what I know! I also hope to grow my shop into something that is useful for my blogging audience and sustainable in business!
Show behind the scenes
One of my business goals for August was to take more photos of me behind the scenes! Well, Isaac really helped me out and started taking a lot at weddings! This translated into an entire blog post a couple of weeks ago. We took our readers behind the scenes at a recent wedding and the results blew my mind! As it turns out, people want to see how you're doing what you're doing!
Let people know how they can be part of your business
I follow some workshops on Instagram and I so wish they would blog on a regular basis! I would feel so much more connected to them, their speakers, and their entire community! And who knows?! I would probably end up on a plane to sit in on one of their workshops!
